How Match-on-Card works
How Match-on-Card works
Enrollment
The cardholder enrolls one or more fingerprints using a fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint information is written to and stored on the tamper-proof smart card as a template At this point personal or confidential data, such as heathcare data or a certificate, is also stored on the smart card.
Smart card reader
The device must be available at the location where a person is being issued a card to establish identity like a driver's license, or for permission for access or transactions, like a bank or office building. The smart card reader can be combined with the fingerprint reader.
Presentation
The individual's smart card is placed in a reader and then will prompt the person to present a previously enrolled finger. At this time the system can also show information about the person, depending on the application.
Authentication
The cardholder places one of his/her enrolled fingers on the fingerprint scanner. The live print is read and analyzed in a split second.
Match
When compared if the fingerprint from the person and the fingerprint template on the card match, then the identity of the cardholder has been verified. Now the system can perform the requested actions such as uploading healthcare data or signing an email using a certificate. If the information does not match, the requested action is rejected, and the true cardholder’s credentials is protected from fraud or misuse.
